Mumbai: The Special MCOC Court has approved an intervention application submitted by Shezeen Siddique, the wife of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was murdered last year, allowing her to participate in the ongoing murder case proceedings.

The application was filed through advocates Pradip Gharat, assisted by Trivankumar Karnani and Hritika Jannawar. According to a press release, Shezeen Siddique was present in court and is now formally recognized as a participant in the trial, where she will assist the prosecution—marking a significant development in the case.

On January 28, Zeeshan Siddiqui, the son of the slain NCP leader, raised concerns during his police statement about the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects in Bandra, indicating a potential connection to his father’s murder. His statement is part of the chargesheet filed by the police earlier this month, where he called for an investigation into his father’s death from the perspective of the redevelopment projects and other related angles.

Zeeshan highlighted that his father was scheduled to be nominated to the legislative council, with the oath ceremony set for October 15, 2024—just two days after Baba Siddiqui’s murder. He emphasized the importance of the SRA project in his police statement but expressed frustration that this aspect was overlooked in the police investigation.

Baba Siddique was shot dead by three assailants near his son Zeeshan’s office in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar on October 12, 2024. In connection with the murder, police have arrested Salman Vohra and Akashdeep Singh, with Vohra reportedly accused of financing the crime.

A senior officer from the Mumbai Crime Branch has indicated that the investigation has also revealed that a prominent leader from Pune was on the radar of the Bishnoi gang following Baba Siddiqui’s murder.
