Eight Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bokaro, Jharkhand on Monday morning. The encounter took place in the forest area between Lugu and Jhumra hills of the district.
According to Jharkhand DGP, ‘Naxal Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek, who had a reward of Rs 1 crore on his head, was also killed in the encounter. So far, the bodies of a total of 8 Naxalites have been recovered. ‘We are engaged in identifying the remaining Naxalites. There is information about more Naxalites hiding. Search operation is going on.’
An AK series rifle, 1 SLR, 3 INSAS rifles and many weapons have also been recovered from the spot.
On the basis of secret information, CRPF and district police personnel were conducting a search operation. During this time, the Naxalites noticed the soldiers and started firing. In retaliation, the soldiers also fired.
According to the information, the encounter started at around 5.30 am on Monday, which lasted for about two and a half hours. During this, bullets were fired intermittently from both sides.
During the encounter with Naxalites, security forces have recovered one AK series rifle, 3 INSAS rifles, one SLR, one pistol and 8 country-made rifles. According to CRPF, the firing has stopped for the time being. However, the search operation is going on.
CRPF’s 209 Cobra Battalion and state police were involved in this operation. The Cobra battalion is considered an expert in jungle warfare and is constantly active in Naxal-affected areas. According to officials, no security personnel was injured in this encounter.
Lugu and Jhumra hills have long been among the safe hideouts of Naxalites. This action is being considered a big success of the security forces. At present, the search operation is going on in the entire area and the situation is being closely monitored.
