Chandigarh: In a decisive action against corruption and neglect of duty, the Punjab Government has suspended SPS Parmar, the Chief Director of the state’s Vigilance Bureau, amidst allegations of inaction in the ongoing Driving License Scam investigation.

Along with Parmar, a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from the Vigilance Bureau, Swaranjit Singh, and an Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Harpreet Singh, have also been suspended.

SPS Parmar’s term as Chief Director was short-lived, having only been appointed on March 26, 2025, to replace Nageshwara Rao IPS. This suspension marks a historic first for the Punjab Government, as they have removed an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) who was concurrently serving as the Director of the Vigilance Bureau. This underscores the administration’s seriousness regarding the alleged compromise in the Driving License Scam investigation.

Before leading the Vigilance Bureau, Parmar served as the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) in Punjab. He was also in charge of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the alleged assault of a serving Army Colonel and his son by twelve police personnel in Patiala earlier this month.

Parmar began his law enforcement career with the state police, later joining the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2012, with his seniority retrospectively acknowledged from 1997.

This suspension marks a significant shift in his career and highlights the Punjab Government’s dedication to enforcing accountability within its investigative bodies.
