235 Pakistanis in Punjab, Last date to return today

The Government of India has already extended this period twice.

Amritsar: According to the decision taken by the central government after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, today is the last day for Pakistani citizens to return to their country. The Government of India has already extended this period twice.

It will be clear by this evening whether it is extended once again or not. If not, then Pakistani citizens who do not leave India may have to face legal action. From 24 April 2025 to 27 April 2025, a total of 537 Pakistani citizens, including 9 diplomats and officials, have returned to Pakistan from India via the Attari-Wagah border.

At the same time, recently DGP Gaurav Yadav had informed in a press conference that the number of Pakistani citizens living in Punjab with visa is 235.

After the attack in Pahalgam on 23 April, the Government of India canceled the visas of all Pakistani citizens and ordered them to leave the country within 48 hours. But keeping in mind the convenience of Pakistani citizens coming from far away, it was first extended till 27 April. By 27 April, only 537 Pakistani citizens had returned to Pakistan. This also included 9 diplomats and officials. After which, the Indian government changed it for the second time and gave an exemption to Pakistani citizens till 29 April. That is, Pakistani citizens will have to leave India today in any case.

If they stay in India, the police will arrest them

The central government issued a notice for Pakistani citizens on Sunday evening. It said that if a Pakistani does not leave India within the stipulated deadline, he will be arrested and a case will be filed. Such citizens may face 3 years in jail or a fine of ₹ 3 lakh or both.

According to the ‘Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025’, which came into force from 4 April 2025, strict action will be taken for violating the terms of the visa or staying in India beyond the stipulated period.
