Himachal Pradesh: Preparations for major action against primary teachers involved in protest

Their one day's salary will also be deducted. Teachers who refuse to do non-teaching work will be given compulsory retirement.

Preparations are on to take major action against the primary teachers involved in the protest against the government in the capital, Shimla. The Directorate of School Education has summoned the attendance records of primary teachers from all districts on April 26. Disciplinary action will be taken against the teachers who protested in Shimla’s Chaura Maidan on April 26 despite the ban. Their one day’s salary will also be deducted. Teachers who refuse to do non-teaching work will be given compulsory retirement.

The Directorate of School Education on Monday issued a letter to all the District Deputy Directors asking them to provide a list of names of such primary teachers within two days, who were absent from schools on April 26 without taking leave. After collecting the records of such teachers, they will first be given show cause notices. If the answer is not satisfactory, disciplinary action will be taken against these teachers. Their one day’s salary will also be deducted. Directorate officials said that the government is serious about this matter. Videos on social media are being searched to identify teachers who made derogatory comments against the government. Four teachers have been suspended on this charge. Others are being identified.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that the decision to reorganize the Directorate of Education will not be taken back. The structure of Directorates of Education in most states of the country has been prepared in Himachal as well.

Before 1984, Directorates of Education used to function in this manner. If the Primary Teachers’ Union has objections to any decision of the government, then it should have been resolved through talks. It is not appropriate to make derogatory comments on the policies of the government in public. The doors of the government are always open to resolve the issues of primary teachers.
