Hoshiarpur, May 1: The Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest outside the BJP office in Hoshiarpur on Wednesday, expressing strong opposition to the recent decision to allocate Punjab’s water to Haryana through the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
Led by local AAP leaders and workers, the protest saw slogans and speeches asserting that Punjab’s water, land, and soil belong to the people of Punjab and will not be given away. “Our soil, our water- we will not give it to anyone,” the protesters declared.
AAP leaders alleged that the decision made by the BBMB to divert Punjab’s water to Haryana was a direct attack on Punjab’s rights. “We are not against giving water to Haryana, but we strongly object to the fact that Punjab’s share of water is being diverted without our consent,” one of the speakers said.
The protestors also criticised the central government and the BJP, accusing them of failing to safeguard Punjab’s interests. An AAP MLA addressing the gathering urged BJP workers to stand with Punjab and support their demand for rightful access to the state’s water resources.
