Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand): The Uttarakhand government and local administration are working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and comfortable pilgrimage experience for devotees visiting the Char Dham sites, both domestic and international.

In a major initiative, the Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has established its own mobile network called the “District Disaster Resource Network.” This network is designed to operate continuously, especially during emergencies, and offers features like mobile data, voice calls, high-quality CCTV visuals, and WiFi connectivity.

District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar of Rudraprayag introduced this system to enhance the ease and safety of pilgrims visiting the district for the Char Dham Yatra. Under this network, visitors now have access to free WiFi. According to Chief Development Officer GS Khati, pilgrims can register their mobile numbers via WiFi settings, receive an OTP, and then enjoy high-speed internet for 30 minutes.

After a successful trial run on Saturday, the WiFi service was officially launched and has received positive feedback from pilgrims, who expressed gratitude to the government and district administration.

Rudraprayag is the first district in India to operate its own dedicated mobile network. During the Kedarnath footpath disaster in July 2024, when other networks failed, this network played a critical role in communication and rescue efforts, helping stranded travelers contact their families and aiding relief operations.

The Char Dham Yatra 2025 officially commenced on April 30, with Gangotri and Yamunotri opening on Akshaya Tritiya amid Vedic chants. Kedarnath’s opening followed on May 2. Chief Minister Dhami visited Kedarnath, distributing prasad and ensuring arrangements are in place for a safe pilgrimage.

He assured that all precautions have been taken so pilgrims won’t face any difficulties. Additionally, he announced that the Badrinath temple doors will open on May 4, completing the opening of all four sites. Over 22 lakh pilgrims have already registered at the Rishikesh Transit Camp for this year’s pilgrimage.

The Char Dham circuit includes Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, with the Yamuna River originating from the Yamunotri Glacier. The pilgrimage season peaks during the summer months in Uttarakhand.
