Los Angeles: Actor Simon Pegg, who has played Benji Dunn alongside Tom Cruise since the third “Mission: Impossible” film, has praised Cruise for his willingness to “literally risk his life” for the sake of entertainment.
In an interview with people.com for a special “Mission: Impossible” issue, Pegg shared, “I’ve told him many times, ‘You’re absolutely nuts,’ but he only cares about giving the best experience for the audience.”
Cruise has starred as Ethan Hunt since the 1996 adaptation of the classic spy series, continuously pushing the boundaries with each film. He is now preparing for his eighth and potentially final installment, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” set to release on May 23.
Reflecting on the stunts, Pegg noted that he has been present for many. He fondly recalled a scene from the 2011 film “Ghost Protocol,” where Cruise scales the outside of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, describing how he watched Cruise hang from the building with a big grin on his face, seemingly loving every second.
Pegg’s favorite stunt is the motorcycle jump off a cliff in 2023’s “Dead Reckoning Part One,” which the cast and crew watched in awe. “It was nerve-wracking because we saw Tom just disappear, and we had to wait for the radio to confirm he’s safe with ‘good canopy,’” he said, describing it as a tense, breath-holding moment.
Another memorable stunt was the opening scene of “Rogue Nation” in 2015, where Cruise clings to the outside of a military plane taking off. Pegg mentioned that it was the first time he saw Cruise nervous, noting that such stunts involve numerous variables and meticulous planning, emphasizing Cruise’s dedication and the expertise of the stunt team.
