Imphal: In a series of coordinated operations, security forces including the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur Police have recovered a total of 31 weapons, along with large quantities of ammunition and explosives, and arrested 17 militants across various districts of Manipur, officials announced on Monday.

Defense spokesperson Lt. Col. Amit Shukla stated that these joint efforts over recent days resulted in the recovery of sophisticated weapons, 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, and war-like stores from four districts—Kakching, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi—covering both valley and mountainous regions.

The recovered arms included a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), two single-barrel guns, a bolt-action rifle, improvised launchers called pompi, a pistol, a carbine, an INSAS rifle, a .22 rifle, and improvised mortars.

Lt. Col. Shukla added that multiple operations across hill and valley districts led to the arrest of 17 militants linked to insurgent groups, along with the recovery of items such as a pistol, mobile phones, and two-wheelers. The detained insurgents and recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police.

He emphasized that these efforts demonstrate the security forces’ ongoing commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.

In addition, police reported the recovery of three stolen vehicles in the past 24 hours during a special drive aimed at retrieving stolen and snatched vehicles from anti-social elements and miscreants. Since April 16, in the wake of ongoing ethnic violence, police have recovered 145 stolen cars and 25 two-wheelers from different parts of the state. The security forces continue area domination and search operations in the border and vulnerable regions of Manipur’s hill and valley districts.
