The weather in Punjab has taken a sudden turn. On Monday, May 5, 2025, the maximum temperature in the state dropped by an average of 8.9 degrees Celsius, which is 9.2 degrees below normal. The highest temperature of the state was recorded at 33.7 ° C in Abohar. Along with this, warnings of heavy rain and storm have also been issued in many districts today.
This change has come due to Western Disturbance (WD) and local weather systems. If this trend of rain and cold winds continues, then there may be some relief from the heat in the coming days. In the last 24 hours, 20 mm of rain has been recorded in areas around Chandigarh, 3 mm in Pathankot and 2.5 mm in areas around Patiala.
Slight relief is expected in some districts between May 6 and 9. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in the state in these days. According to which, there will be possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas including Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Pathankot for the next four days.
