Giving its verdict on 3 petitions in this regard, the division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumit Goyal said that the Punjab Government can increase the security of Bhakra Nangal Dam only by staying within the ambit of the law.

The High Court has also given instructions to implement the decision of the meeting held on May 2 under the chairmanship of the Home Secretary of the Central Government. In this, it was decided to release 4500 cusecs of additional water to Haryana. The High Court has clarified that if the Punjab government does not agree with the decision of BBMB, then it can approach the central government through the chairman of the board.
