In the Jagraon area of Ludhiana, the Ferozepur Anti-Narcotics Task Force killed a drug smuggler in an encounter on the Jagraon-Ludhiana road. The smuggler’s other partner has escaped from the spot by dodging the police. Police teams are engaged in an investigation and taking necessary action.
The deceased drug smuggler has been identified as Dharmendra Singh, son Jagtar Singh, resident of village Salempura Tibba police station, Sindhwa Bet. The body has been kept in the Civil Hospital, Jagraon, for post-mortem. Police claim that about 2 kg of heroin, a loaded pistol, and a Swift car have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
DIG of Ludhiana Range Nilambar Vijay Jagdale said that the Ferozepur Anti Narcotics Task Force had received information that Dharmendra Singh, a resident of Salempura Tibba, along with his other partner Jagseer Khan, son Khairati Khan resident of Dera Bassi, is trying to sell a large quantity of heroin.
The police of the Anti Task Force of Ferozepur themselves became customers to buy heroin, who kept talking to both the accused on the phone from Ferozepur, and during this time, the accused brought them to Deepak Dhaba on Ludhiana Road from Jagraon. As soon as the police personnel put lakhs of rupees in front of the accused Dharmendra to buy heroin, he became suspicious, after which he snatched the money and started running away from there.
When the police personnel tried to stop the smugglers, one of the smugglers fired a bullet from a pistol towards the police employee, which broke the front glass of the police vehicle and got stuck in the gearbox. In the retaliatory fire, the bullet fired by the police hit Dharmendra’s chest, due to which he got injured on the spot. The police took the injured Dharmendra Singh to Civil Hospital Jagraon, where the doctors declared him dead.
