Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the family of Raj Kumar Thapa, a JKAS officer and ADDC of Rajouri, who was killed during Pakistani shelling. Abdullah expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating that Thapa’s service and sacrifice will always be remembered, and assured that the government stands with his family in this time of grief.
The J&K Chief Minister’s Office shared on X that Abdullah mourned the loss of Thapa, who lost his life after his home in Rajouri was targeted by Pakistani shelling. Abdullah highlighted that Thapa was actively involved in district activities just the previous day, accompanying the Deputy CM and attending an online meeting. He described the incident as devastating and expressed deep shock and sadness over the loss of a dedicated officer, praying for his soul’s peace.
PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her sorrow, extending condolences to Thapa’s family and praying for his peace.
The shelling caused significant damage to civilian areas in Rajouri, with several houses and properties damaged, leading to panic among residents. Smoke was reported rising from explosions, and residents described loud blasts throughout the region.
In response to the attack, India carried out retaliatory strikes targeting 26 locations across Pakistan, with intermittent firing ongoing along the Line of Control in several areas.
