Action has been taken regarding the garbage accumulated for years near the famous Bhadrakali temple in Jagraon city of Ludhiana. The National Green Tribunal has issued a show cause notice to the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Sukhdev Singh Randhawa. The NGT has asked why you should not be arrested.
This matter came to light on the second complaint of the head of the temple committee, Parashar Dev Sharma. He told that garbage is being dumped near the temple for a long time. This is hurting the sentiments of the devotees. Pollution is also increasing in the area.
NGT had given orders to submit the report
NGT had already ordered the Municipal Council to remove the garbage by 31 December 2024. The cleaning report should be submitted to the Registrar General by 15 January 2025. The Punjab Pollution Control Board was also instructed to ensure cleaning work from the Municipal Council. But neither cleaning was done, nor the report was submitted.
Saddened by this negligence, Parashar Dev Sharma filed an application again. Hearing on this was held on 2 May 2025. NGT sent notice to EO Randhawa. Warned that if there is no progress in cleaning, arrest proceedings will be initiated.
The report of Punjab State Monitoring Committee also revealed that there is still a pile of garbage near the temple. No cleaning has been done. NGT asked the Municipal Council why cleaning was not done in so many years. Why were the sentiments and health of the devotees played with?
