Patna: After nearly a year without reported Covid-19 cases in Bihar’s capital, Patna, two suspected cases have recently emerged at a private hospital on Bailey Road, raising concerns among health officials. Both patients, who visited the hospital four days ago with symptoms such as cold, cough, fever, and breathing difficulty, showed a decline in oxygen saturation during examination, prompting Covid-19 tests.
One of the patients, in a critical condition, was admitted to the hospital, while the other has recovered with outpatient treatment. The hospital has notified the Civil Surgeon’s office, and confirmation from district health authorities is awaited. Civil Surgeon Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh confirmed the situation and said that proper action will be taken once test results are available.
Additionally, a senior doctor revealed that three to four more patients with similar symptoms, including respiratory distress, have visited recently but refused Covid-19 testing despite medical advice. This behavior, coupled with the recent rise in active Covid-19 cases nationwide, has raised alarm among health officials.
The resurgence of suspected Covid-19 cases after a long period has prompted the district health administration to tighten surveillance and preventive measures across hospitals and public spaces. Although Bihar had reported minimal or no cases for months, this development suggests that the virus may still be circulating silently. The Health Department is reviewing the situation and may issue new testing guidelines if further cases are detected.
Health experts are emphasizing the importance of not ignoring flu-like symptoms and seeking testing when necessary. Hospitals have been instructed to stay alert and report any suspected cases immediately to prevent further spread.
