Interstate drug smuggler Vijay Soni arrested by Shimla Police

The case came to light on January 8, 2025 when Harsh Saini, resident of Roorkee, Haridwar Uttarakhand was arrested with 76 grams of chitta at Theog bypass near Rahighat.

Shimla Police has arrested interstate chitta smuggler Vijay Soni. Vijay Soni has been arrested and brought to Shimla after transferring custody of the accused from Solan Police in the chitta smuggling case that surfaced in Theog. Police investigation has revealed that Vijay Soni was running a network of chitta smuggling from Shimla to Theog. Vijay Soni, a resident of Shantinagar, Sanatan Chowk, Sirsa district of Haryana, has 18 cases of drug smuggling registered against him in Himachal, Punjab and Haryana.

Gaurav Singh, who is looking after the additional charge of SP Shimla, said that the police has taken this action in the case registered on January 9, 2025 on the basis of financial investigation and previous links. So far nine people have been arrested in this case. In the investigation of this case, the police arrested accused Harsh Verma, resident of Saharanpur, Sunny resident of Abohar district Fazilka Punjab. After this, accused Kartik Verma, Rahul Sharma, Sandeep, Ankush and Papil Bhushan were also arrested on the basis of involvement in drug smuggling. When the investigation progressed, the name of Vijay Soni, the main supplier of chitta smuggling, came to the fore. According to the police, Vijay Soni is a cunning criminal who was constantly changing his mobile phone, SIM and location since November 2024 to avoid police arrest. The cunning used to make only WhatsApp calls to his network and acquaintances.

The team of Cyber ​​​​Cell Solan traced the cunning to Sector-9 Kharar Punjab on 7 February 2025. After this, the team of Thana Dharmpur arrested the accused Vijay Soni from Kharar on 8 February. The accused was running a drug network in states like Punjab, Haryana etc. for a long time. The accused was also supplying drugs in Himachal.

Investigation has revealed that the network of the accused became active in Himachal from the year 2021. So far, more than 200 Himachali youths have come in contact with it for the purchase of drugs. The culprits have earned a lot of wealth in their name from the earnings of the drug business. Vijay Soni, Rahul Diwan and Vartik Chauhan have luxury cars. These include Mercedes Benz, Ford Eco, Forex Turbo whose value is found to be 1 crore 10 lakhs. These vehicles have been seized.
