Chandigarh, June 13: Severe heat will continue in Punjab for the next two days. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding the heatwave today as well. A western disturbance (weather-changing system) is becoming active from today, which may bring some changes in the weather.
Although the temperature has decreased by only 0.1 degrees in the last 24 hours, the temperature is still about 5 degrees above normal. Bathinda was the hottest, where a temperature of 46.8 degrees was recorded.
Due to the heat, the consumption of electricity has also increased rapidly. On Wednesday, the consumption was recorded at 16,836 MW, which is the highest till date. On Thursday, it fell to 16,300 MW.
There are power cuts in many places. However, the electricity department says that we have the capacity to supply up to 17,000 MW of electricity and we are ready to deal with the situation. The temperature in Chandigarh has also been recorded at 41.7 degrees.
Red alert for heatwave in eight districts
Amid the scorching heat, the state has been divided into three parts, according to which the weather forecast has been issued. A red alert for heatwave has been issued in Faridkot, Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Mansa and Ferozepur. The temperature is likely to remain high here even at night.
At the same time, heatwave and excessive heat at night have been predicted at some places in Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib. Apart from this, heatwave alert has been issued in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Sangrur, Rupnagar and Patiala adjoining the mountains. The temperature of all the districts is above 40 degrees.
There is also a possibility of a storm from tomorrow
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heat wave and light rain at some places on 14th and 15th June. Till the 18th, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour will occur at different places. There is a possibility of rain after this.

Mohali – The sky will be clear today. The sun will shine brightly and the temperature will increase. The temperature is expected to be between 31 to 42 degrees Celsius.
