Amritsar, June 17: In light of the ongoing border tensions between India and Pakistan, the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to cancel the annual pilgrimage of sikh devotees to Pakistan, which was scheduled to depart on June 29 for the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Lahore.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that the decision was taken after carefully assessing the current geopolitical situation, with security and safety of pilgrims being the top priority.
Over 200 sikh devotees had applied and submitted their passports for the pilgrimage, which is an annual tradition involving visits to historic gurudwaras in Pakistan.
