Gurdaspur: RMP doctor shot dead on highway, Police launch investigation

A major incident took place in village Kailey Kalan of Gurdaspur last night. A person running a medical store as an RMP doctor was shot dead by unknown assailants.

Gurdaspur, June 17: A major incident took place in village Kailey Kalan of Gurdaspur last night. A person running a medical store as an RMP doctor was shot dead by unknown assailants. The incident took place when the RMP doctor was returning home from the clinic on his motorcycle. The incident took place on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway, and late last night, the police registered a case against 6 people under various sections based on the statements of the deceased’s son.

The deceased has been identified as Raghbir Singh alias Major Singh, a resident of Harnam Nagar, Batala. The postmortem of Raghbir Singh is being conducted at the Civil Hospital, Batala, and family members said that he had been running a clinic at a medical store in the village Kailey Kalan for the past 30 years. Last night, he was returning to Batala from Kailey Kalan on his Bullet motorcycle, when he reached near Satkoha Morh, he was shot from behind by unknown assailants, due to which he fell on the road and died on the spot.

According to the family members of the deceased, they fear that Major Singh was killed out of enmity. Meanwhile, DSP of Police District Batala Paramveer Singh said that the police reached the spot, took possession of the body and are conducting a postmortem. A case has been registered on the statements of the deceased’s son, and legal action is being taken, and the matter is being investigated seriously.
