Centre sanctions Rs 2006.40 crore to Himachal for reconstruction in disaster affected areas

The central government has approved an assistance amount of Rs 2,006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh for reconstruction in areas affected by disasters like floods, landslides, and cloudbursts in the year 2023. A high-level committee headed by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has approved this amount. The Home Minister’s Office has given this information on its social media account. According to the Home Minister’s Office, the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands firmly with the states in times of disasters without any discrimination.

In this direction, a high-level committee headed by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah approved an assistance amount of Rs 2006.40 crore to Himachal for reconstruction in areas affected by disasters like floods, landslides and cloudbursts in the year 2023. In this, Rs 1504.80 crore will be the Center’s share from the Recovery and Reconstruction Funding Window under the NDRF. The Home Ministry had also given additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore to Himachal Pradesh in December 2023 for relief and rehabilitation from this disaster.

The provision of Rs 25,425.16 crore to the states under NDRF and SDRF by the Modi government in the financial year 2024-25 is a symbol of sensitivity and readiness towards disaster management. Let us tell you, the Himachal Pradesh government has sought a post-disaster need assessment amount of Rs 9 thousand crore from the central government to compensate for the loss caused by the disaster in 2023, however, only Rs 2 thousand crore has been received from the Center so far.

The Central Government had approved several mitigation projects with an overall financial outlay of Rs 7253.51 crore to reduce the risk of multiple hazards including urban flooding (3075.65 crore), landslides (1000 crore), forest fire (818.92 crore), lightning (186.78 crore) and drought (2022.16 crore). This additional assistance is in addition to the funds released by the Centre to the States in the SDRF, which is already with the States. During the financial year 2024-25, the Central Government has released Rs 20,264.40 crore to 28 States under SDRF and Rs 5,160.76 crore to 19 States under NDRF. In addition, Rs 4984.25 crore has also been released to 19 States from State Disaster Mitigation Fund (ADRF) and Rs 719.72 crore to eight States from NDRF.
