Himachal: 700 home guards will be deployed in temples and power projects

Shimla: Home guards will be deployed for security and emergency response in the state’s Shaktipeeths and other temples, power projects and profit-making public sector undertakings. The state government has directed the Home Defense Department to start the recruitment process of Home Guards for 700 vacant posts with immediate effect.

These instructions have been issued by Under Secretary (Home) Manmohan Chopra. The Home Defense Department will now prepare the criteria for the Home Guard recruitment process, after which the posts will be advertised.

Home guard jawans will be deployed to maintain crowd control and order in temples, to protect against criminals, especially pickpockets, and to provide security and assistance to devotees. Apart from this, the responsibility of security, protection of sensitive equipment and properties in power projects will be on the Home Guard jawans.

Home guard jawans will be deployed for external and internal security in public sector undertakings, prevention of vandalism and theft incidents, industrial security and quick response in emergencies. Apart from this, Home Guard jawans will also be deployed to assist the police force.

A forecast of more rain has been issued this year in the monsoon. In such a situation, the risk of natural disasters is also high. The state government has directed the Home Defense Department to start the Home Guard recruitment process soon, so that the help of Home Guard jawans can be taken in relief and rescue operations if needed.
