Chandigarh, June 26: Chandigarh has taken a big step toward clean energy. North India’s largest floating solar power plant has started working at Waterworks, Sector 39. This 2.5 MW plant was set up by the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST).
A step towards greener Chandigarh
This project will help Chandigarh become a model solar city. On this occasion, Nitesh Vyas, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, visited the plant. He is on a two-day visit to Chandigarh. Officials from CREST and the Department of Science and Technology explained the project in detail.
What will this plant do
⇒It will produce about 35 lakh units of clean electricity every year.
⇒It will help reduce 2,415 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
⇒Since the solar panels float on water, they will also stop water from evaporating.
⇒This can save around 477.5 million litres of clean drinking water every year.
Praises for the project
Nitesh Vyas praised the project and said that such initiatives are inspiring towards environmental protection and sustainable energy. He praised the efforts to make Chandigarh the green energy capital. Officials of CREST, CPDL and Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) were also present on the occasion. So far, CREST has installed solar power plants of total capacity of 89.689 MW in Chandigarh.
This project is not only beneficial for the environment, but it will also play an important role in achieving the goals of water conservation, energy self-sufficiency and climate change action plan. Write in simple words that the reader can understand
