Orange alert for heavy rain in Punjab: Monsoon brings 19% more rainfall this year

Chandigarh, June 29: An orange alert has been issued for rain in Punjab today on Sunday. The rain that started on Saturday is expected to continue till the first week. Yesterday, 54.5 mm of rain was recorded in Firozpur, 32 mm in Moga, 7 mm in Pathankot, while many districts remained cloudy. After which the maximum temperature of the state has seen a decrease of 0.7 degrees.

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the situation in the state remains normal. The highest temperature was recorded at 39.6 degrees in Bathinda. While 35.9 degrees were recorded in Amritsar, 35.5 degrees in Ludhiana, 35 degrees in Patiala, 34 degrees in Gurdaspur and 36 degrees in Ferozepur.

Monsoon brings more rainfall this time

This time the monsoon arrived in Punjab 5 days before time. Along with arriving before time, the weather has also been kind to the state. This year, 19 percent more rain than normal has been recorded in the month of June.

Till June 29, 54.9 mm of rain was recorded in the state, which is 19 percent more than the normal 46.2 mm. If the monsoon situation remains better in the coming days, it will be a relief for the state and the people.

Rain will continue on June 30 and July 1

A period of heavy rains has started in Punjab by the first week of July. The Meteorological Department has warned that light to moderate rains may occur in many parts of the state on June 29. This rain may spread to most parts of the state on June 30 and July 1 and this trend may continue even after that.

According to the information received from IMD, orange alert has been issued in Sangrur and Patiala. While yellow alert will continue in Mansa, Barnala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot. While the situation will remain normal in other districts.

Very heavy rainfall, i.e. 12 cm or more, has been warned in some districts between June 29 and 30. This situation can cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and damage to crops. The Meteorological Department has advised Patiala, Sangrur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and adjoining areas to be especially vigilant during this period.

The water level of the dams is rising

According to the data received till June 27, the water level of major dams has improved after the rains in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

The water level of Pong Dam has been recorded at 1295.53 feet, which is about 94.5 feet below its maximum level of 1390 feet. An increase of 2.58 feet was recorded in its water level.

The water level of Pandoh Dam is 2922.17 feet, which is about 148 feet less than its highest level of 3070 feet. 21,679 cusecs of water is coming in and 14,607 cusecs is being released.

The water level of Bhakra Dam is 1567.62 feet, which is about 112.38 feet below the maximum of 1680 feet. Inflow was 42,249 cusecs and outflow was 32,863 cusecs. 7790 cusecs of water has been released in the lower Ropar area.

The water level of Ranjit Sagar Dam is 505.42 meters, while the maximum level is 527.91 meters. That is, it is 22.49 meters below. The inflow is 11,541 cusecs and the out-flow is 11,992 cusecs.
