Babbu Maan supported
Famous singer and artist of Punjabi music industry Babbu Maan supported Diljit Dosanjh by sharing a post on Instagram.
He wrote:

“Punjab, Punjabiat Zindabad…

In geo-politics two countries sometimes fight and then unite. Some actors’ film gets a censor certificate and some don’t. We faced the same problem during the film ‘Hawaayein’. But not allowing an artist to work in future is a dictatorial order. Every artist may have different thinking but when it comes to Punjab and Punjabi culture, Diljit and White Hill have always stood by him.”Censorship of Punjabi films should be done in Punjab only so that we can understand each other’s feelings better.”

Where did the controversy start?

The root of this controversy is about the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film. After the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in April 2025, tension between India and Pakistan increased significantly. After this, many film organizations of India banned Pakistani artists. However, the shooting of this film was already completed.

Ban on release in India

Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) termed the film as an ‘anti-national step’ and put pressure to cancel its release in India. Apart from this, they also demanded the removal of Diljit from ‘Border 2’.

To avoid hurting the sentiments of the country and the public, the producers and Diljit decided not to release the film in India.

Box office hit in Pakistan

The film was released outside India on 27 June 2025 in Canada, UK, Australia and Pakistan.

The film earned 11 crores in just two days in Pakistan and proved to be a success.

Shooting was done before Operation Sindoor

Diljit Dosanjh clarified that the shooting of the film was completed in February 2025 itself, then there was no situation like Indo-Pak tension.

Producer Gumbir Singh Sidhu said that it was his decision not to release it in India and due to this he suffered a loss of 40% revenue.

This entire controversy is not just about the work of an artist, but also involves many issues such as **artistic freedom, regional culture and politics.
