Char Dham Yatra hit by heavy rains: Kedarnath, Yamunotri routes affected; 7 still missing

The Char Dham Yatra is being affected due to the rain in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. Especially the journey to Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham has been halted many times.

Dehradun, July 3: The Char Dham Yatra is being affected due to the rain in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. Especially the journey to Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham has been halted many times. Late on Wednesday night, the road was blocked near Sonprayag on the Kedarnath route due to debris and heavy boulders. Due to which the journey had to be stopped till Thursday afternoon. More than 40 passengers were also stranded here.

Due to the closure of the road, more than 40 devotees returning from Kedarnath Dham got stuck in the sliding zone. Thankfully, no major accident occurred. All these devotees were safely evacuated from the landslide zone one by one by the SDRF team. All these passengers were safely transported to Sonprayag by the team.

The path was opened for pedestrians on Thursday afternoon

Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajbhar said that the road has been opened for pedestrians on Thursday afternoon. But there is still a danger of landslides here. Due to which SDRF and police personnel are deployed on the spot, the passengers are leaving from here on foot. But the sound of vehicles is being done through another route.

Yamunotri highway is not open till now 

Similarly, on the Yamunotri highway, even on the fourth day of the cloudburst, the work could not be resumed beyond Silai Band. Here, about 20 to 25 meters of the road was broken. Although pedestrian movement is being done from here, but it is still dangerous. Security personnel are deployed on the spot to evacuate the pedestrians.

On 29th June, a construction hotel was washed away due to cloudburst near Silai Band on Yamunotri Highway. Seven workers missing in this accident have not been found yet. NDRF, SDRF and ITBP teams are searching for them with the help of sniffer dogs. But even on the fourth day, the missing people could not be found.

Rescue team engaged in search of seven missing people

Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya said that the entire administrative staff is working to make the Yamunotri highway operational. He said that soon the highway will be repaired and vehicular movement will be resumed. Apart from this, the rescue team is engaged in the search for the seven missing people.
