Sanjeev Arora, who left the Rajya Sabha and won the by-election from Ludhiana, has become the new NRI, Industry and Commerce Minister of the Punjab government. He took oath as the 17th minister in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Sanjeev Arora was promised to be made a minister after winning the Ludhiana West by-election. This is the reason why he has entered the cabinet.
This is the 7th cabinet expansion in the nearly 3 and a half years of the AAP government. The NRI department was earlier with Kuldeep Dhaliwal, but he has now resigned. The Industry department was with Tarunpreet, which has been taken back and given to Arora. Tarunpreet is now left with only the Panchayat and Culture department.
After resigning, Dhaliwal said- CM Bhagwant Mann told me to give a chance to someone else. I said okay. I have submitted my resignation to the CM. I am not involved in the fight for departments.
After Arora’s joining the cabinet and Kuldeep Dhaliwal’s resignation, there are now 16 ministers in the cabinet. Still one seat in the cabinet is vacant.
With Arora’s entry:
The NRI department, previously held by Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, now goes to Arora.
The Industry portfolio has also been reassigned from Tarunpreet Singh Saund to Arora.
Tarunpreet now retains only Panchayat and Culture.
After resignation, Dhaliwal said 4 important things
1. Now I will work from Ajnala
After resigning from the ministerial post, Dhaliwal said in a press conference- People of my constituency have elected me by casting their votes. I will put my whole life into the development of that area. I have to make the constituency number one. Now I will work from Ajnala for the next one and a half years. Wherever the party assigns me duty, I will work there. Regarding removal from the ministerial post, Dhaliwal said that the party will know about it. Whoever works, he should be given a chance.
2. I am not involved in the fight for departments
Dhaliwal said- I am not involved in the fight for departments. I am a loyal soldier of my party. I did not take a single day off in 10 years. I have resigned today. CM Bhagwant Mann told me to give a chance to someone else. I said okay. I have resigned to the CM.
3. Bhagwant Mann is my friend since 1992
Dhaliwal said- I was told that I have to give you some other work. I am close to Arvind Kejriwal. Bhagwant Mann is my friend since 1992. I came from America because of him. When I joined the party, I did not ask the party to make me an MLA, the party itself gave me everything.
4. Posts have no importance
Further Dhaliwal said- I am like an open book. I have freed 11 thousand acres of land in one year. Punjab comes first for me. Posts have no importance. I am satisfied that whatever time the party gave me, I worked 100% in that. We are not going to panic.
