Mumbai: Police detained five Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers in connection with vandalism at entrepreneur Sushil Kedia’s office, officials announced on Saturday. Kedia, who recently made headlines due to a language controversy over his comments against MNS and its leader Raj Thackeray, explained that his remarks were made impulsively and now he regrets them.

Kedia emphasized that his comments were taken out of context by some groups, stating, “My tweet was made in a wrong state of mind due to stress. It is being manipulated and misinterpreted to serve the interests of those seeking controversy.” He added that his comments originated from concerns about ordinary citizens being targeted over a lack of Marathi language skills.

He explained that he reacted emotionally because of the violence inflicted on those who do not speak Marathi. “I realize I overreacted and want to take back what I said,” Kedia remarked.

Raj Thackeray, meanwhile, praised the MNS chief for addressing important issues affecting Hindus, acknowledging Thackeray’s work on Hindutva and Rashtravad. Thackeray admitted that under stress, he was disturbed by the internal conflicts within Maharashtra. He also expressed hope that citizens could be encouraged to learn Marathi if given proper support, adding, “I’ve realized my mistake and want to correct it. Instead of instilling fear, encouragement can motivate us to speak Marathi fluently and confidently.”

In related developments, Union Minister Chirag Paswan condemned the attack on a shopkeeper in Thane who was targeted for not speaking Marathi. Speaking from Vaishali, Bihar, Paswan said it was troubling to see divisions rising among Indians based on region, language, religion, or caste, emphasizing the need for mutual respect.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned that strict legal action would be taken against those engaging in “hooliganism” under the guise of promoting Marathi, stressing that the Mahayuti government would not tolerate violence against ordinary citizens.
