Uttarakhand: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday inaugurated 20 new air-conditioned UTC Mini (Tempo Traveller) vehicles operated by the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation during a function organized by the Chief Minister’s Camp Office. He stated, “This step will significantly strengthen the state’s transport infrastructure.

It will not only offer tourists a seamless travel experience but also boost economic and tourism activities, especially during the Char Dham yatra and other events, which attract large footfalls to Dehradun.”

Among these vehicles, 10 Tempo Travellers will operate on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route, and the remaining 10 on the Haldwani-Nainital route. This initiative is expected to help reduce the congestion between Nainital-Haldwani and Dehradun-Mussoorie.

Dhami expressed hope that if this project proves successful, the number of such services will increase further. During the event, he also traveled from the camp office to the GTC helipad in a Tempo Traveller. He added, “Based on the outcomes, we will expand this initiative and increase the fleet of mini travellers. These vehicles are very comfortable, affordable, and will make travel more enjoyable for everyone. To improve transportation services, we are planning to purchase 100 more buses soon.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that these air-conditioned Tempo Travellers will play a crucial role in enhancing the transport system of the state by providing safe, smooth, and economical transport options for passengers while promoting tourism and economic growth. He further stated that the government is working to connect every part of Uttarakhand with better road networks and reliable transport services. Currently, the Transport Department offers convenient services like digital ticketing, online booking, and real-time tracking.

Dhami highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, which has been profitable for three consecutive years. He also mentioned plans to include electric buses in the fleet, with the procurement process already underway. The government has taken several measures to improve the welfare of employees, drivers, and conductors, including increasing Dearness Allowance (DA), implementing recommendations from the 7th Pay Commission, and recruiting more staff, all carried out with a strong commitment to their welfare.
