Punjab: In a groundbreaking development, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda appointed Ashwani Kumar Sharma, MLA, as the Working State President of the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, effective immediately, as announced on July 7, 2025.
This follows a pattern of organizational changes by the BJP, with Sharma previously serving as Punjab BJP president from 2010 to 2013 and again appointed in 2020. Sharma, a former Pathankot MLA with an RSS background, replaced Sunil Jakhar, who was appointed in 2023.
About Ashwini Kumar Sharma
Notably, Ashwini Kumar Sharma is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pathankot, Punjab. He has previously served as the Punjab BJP president from 2010 to 2013 and was reappointed in 2020. He has a background associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Before entering politics, Sharma worked as a journalist and was involved in business activities in the transport and petroleum sectors. He is recognized for his organizational experience within the BJP and has been a key figure in Punjab’s political landscape.
