Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched the 'Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana' in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, July 8: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana’ in Chandigarh. Under this scheme, every resident of Punjab will be given a health card, through which they will be able to get free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh. Card making under this scheme will start from October 2.

Every resident will get a health card

Under this scheme, health cards will be issued to all the citizens of Punjab,  whether they are farmers, labourers, government employees or pensioners. Through this card, they will be able to get free treatment in both government and private hospitals. By the time the scheme starts, the number of private hospitals in the state will be increased to 2,000.

Registration camps will be set up in facilitation centres and hospitals to get health cards made. To get the card made, only Aadhar card and voter ID will have to be shown. Although the government has not yet given the complete list of diseases to be covered, it has been said that serious diseases will be included in the scheme.

This scheme is different from existing schemes

This scheme is different from the already running ‘Mukhyamantri Sarvatra Swasthya Bima Yojana’, which provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh and covers about 80% of the state’s population. It is also different from the central government’s ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’, which mainly provides treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to families below the poverty line.

There is no limit on the basis of age or income in the new scheme, only being a resident of Punjab is necessary.

Key points of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

Bhagwant Mann said that his government is fighting a tough battle against drug abuse. He said, “The previous governments had drowned Punjab in the quagmire of drugs. Now we are taking strict action against it. Whoever is involved in the drug business will be punished as per the law.”

He also said on the controversy regarding actor Diljit Dosanjh that the film was banned because it had Pakistani actors. He is saddened to be called a traitor.

Referring to the recent political situation in America, he said, “American people are regretting electing Trump. The country will change only when educated people come forward.”

Arvind Kejriwal expressed happiness over the progress of Punjab

Arvind Kejriwal said that the education system of Punjab has improved and the state is now at number 1 in the education survey of the central government, whereas in 2017 it was at 29th place.

He informed that more than 800 Mohalla clinics have been built in Punjab so far, out of which 200 more will start soon. He said that all the tests in the hospitals will be free and the treatment will be completely cashless.

Statement of Health Minister Balbir Singh

Health Minister Balbir Singh called this scheme a boon for the people of Punjab. He said that now anyone will have to show only Aadhar card for treatment in the hospital and treatment will be free.

He said that even in the New York mayor elections, inspiration is being taken from the models of Kejriwal and Mann.
