The state government has issued instructions to give 14 loss-making hotels of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) to private hands. Government hotels will now be given to private hands for operation and maintenance. The Principal Secretary of Tourism has instructed the Managing Director (MD) of the Tourism Corporation to do this work within three months.

These orders of the Principal Secretary have created a stir among the corporation employees. There were discussions about giving these hotels to private hands for a long time. Finally, the government has issued orders regarding this. What will happen to the employees working in these government hotels? What will be their service conditions? There is no clarity on this yet.
The state government has taken this decision at a time when the revenue of the Tourism Corporation has increased. Due to this, there is tremendous anger among the employees against this decision of the government.
The hotels that are being given to private hands for operation and management have been running in loss for a long time. Many efforts were also made to rescue these hotels of the Tourism Corporation from losses. According to the government order, 14 government hotels built with crores of rupees will be handed over to private hands. The decision to close it was taken in the state cabinet meeting on June 28.
