Amritsar, July 13: Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia is lodged in New Nabha jail in the disproportionate assets case. But now he has filed a petition in the Mohali court. He has filed this petition to change his barrack in the jail.
Majithia says that he has been a former minister and MLA and he should be kept in the “orange category”. Hence, he should be kept separate from prisoners who are under trial or who have been convicted.
While hearing this petition, the court has sent a notice to the government and has fixed the next hearing on Monday. At present, Majithia will remain in judicial custody till July 19.
Claim to install CCTV cameras
Earlier, when he was sent to New Nabha Jail, the Punjab Government had claimed that CCTV cameras have been installed in Majithia’s barrack so that there is no compromise with his security. At the same time, the government had clarified that Majithia will be given the same facilities in the jail as ordinary prisoners. He will not get VIP facilities in any way.

In 2021, during the Congress government, a case related to drug smuggling was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia. After the 2022 assembly elections, he surrendered, after which the court sent him to Patiala jail. He stayed there for about six months, but during that time he did not file any petition for changing the barrack.
Now that a case of disproportionate assets is going on against him, the Vigilance Department has intensified the investigation. The team has taken all the records of documents related to Gorakhpur in its possession. This record is more than 10,000 pages long.
