New Delhi, July 13: A speeding white Audi car crushed 5 people sleeping on the footpath in Vasant Vihar area of ​​Delhi at around 1:45 am on July 9. The accident took place near Shiva Camp, opposite the Indian Oil petrol pump. The car driver Utsav Shekhar (40), resident of Dwarka, was drunk and lost control of the vehicle. The car was badly damaged after the accident and also hit a truck.

All the victims were migrant labourers from Rajasthan:

Her husband Sabmi (45 years)

Daughter Bimla (8 years)

Ramchander (45 years)

His wife Narayani (35 years)

Ramchander said that at the time of the accident, they were all sleeping on the footpath when suddenly the car came and ran over them. “The tyre ran over our chests and knocked us unconscious,” he said. The police received information about the incident under DD No. 3A.

A team from Vasant Vihar police station reached the spot.

All the injured were sent to the hospital. The driver Utsav Shekhar was arrested from the spot and a medical examination was conducted, which confirmed that he had consumed alcohol. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused. This heart-wrenching accident has raised serious questions about the safety of people living on the footpath in Delhi. Blankets, shoes and broken objects were found scattered at the accident site, indicating the magnitude of the accident.
