Bathinda, July 14: The rain that has been pouring in the Maur assembly constituency of Bathinda district for the last two days has increased the problems of the farmers. Paddy and maize crops have been drowned due to waterlogging in the fields. Paddy crops grown on several acres have been submerged in water.
The maize crop has also been flooded. Due to waterlogging, maize cannot be harvested. The farmers’ motors and tubewells have also been submerged in water. They have suffered losses worth lakhs of rupees. The fields of village Kotli Khurd have turned into ponds. The paddy crop planted here three weeks ago has been completely submerged. The moong and maize crops are also facing the brunt of the rain.
Demand to take stock of the damage from the administration
Farmers say that farming was already in trouble. Farmers who do farming on lease will have trouble paying the contract amount. Due to waterlogging in the fields, sowing of the next crop will also be delayed. Farmer Gurpyar Singh said that the administration monitors the burning of stubble through satellite. Now the administration should come to the spot and assess the damage. Farmers need help.
