Monsoon has caused massive destruction in Himachal Pradesh. A total of 105 people have lost their lives in the state between June 20 and July 14, 2025. Of these, 61 deaths have occurred due to rain-related incidents—landslides, cloudbursts, floods, drowning, fire, and electrocution—while 44 people died in road accidents.
The state government has announced major relief. Families whose houses have completely collapsed will be given a compensation of ₹7 lakh. This announcement has been made by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Revenue, Horticulture and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that relief work is going on continuously. Mandi district has recorded the highest number of rain-related deaths at 17, followed by Kangra at 14 and Hamirpur at 7.
According to the report of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts and 18 major landslides have been recorded so far. 208 roads are still closed, and more than 160 machines are engaged in relief work in the Mandi district. Repeated landslides have affected traffic on the Chandigarh-Manali national highway.
Power and water supply have also been affected. 139 power transformers and over 745 water supply schemes are disrupted. So far, more than 184 people have been injured and a total of ₹784.6 crore worth of property has been damaged, including roads, power lines, agricultural land, livestock and schools.
PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that severely affected assembly constituencies have been given interim relief of ₹2 crore and other areas ₹50 lakh. He sought more support from the central government, saying this is not the time for political rhetoric but for solidarity.
The state government has appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel and follow the weather department warnings. Rescue teams are continuously active for relief and rehabilitation work.
