Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda takes over as Chandigarh DGP, Replacing Surendra Yadav

Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda will be the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh. The central government has issued his appointment order.

Chandigarh, July 15: Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda will be the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh. The central government has issued his appointment order. He will take charge soon.

Dr Hooda, a 1997 batch IPS officer, was earlier posted as Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Department) in Delhi. He has held many important responsibilities during his service.

He has also held additional charge of departments like Media Cell and Perception Management, Special Unit on Crimes against Women and Children (SPUWAC) and Special Police Unit of North-Eastern Region (SPUNER). Apart from this, he has also played an important role in the investigation of many important cases.

The tenure of former DGP Surendra Yadav was in the news

Former Chandigarh Director General of Police (DGP) Surendra Yadav remained in the news throughout his tenure due to his decisions and strict actions. Many important and controversial decisions were taken under his leadership.

Surendra Yadav had made a sub-inspector the station in-charge (SHO), a post usually assigned to the inspector rank. During his tenure, an FIR was also filed against a DSP, which caused a stir in the police department.

A case was also registered against District Crime Cell Inspector Jasminder Singh during this time. Apart from this, an FIR was also registered against 4 policemen of the Crime Branch. These policemen had held a secret meeting in Punjab area against the DGP and sent a letter to the central government, which further heated up the situation.
