Before the release of the upcoming Conjuring movie, a man was found dead while traveling with the “possessed” doll that inspired the franchise. The new film, The Conjuring: Last Rites, is scheduled for release in September. Meanwhile, police have provided details about the sudden passing of Dan Rivera, a 54-year-old paranormal investigator.

Dan Rivera was discovered dead in his hotel room on July 13 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, while on tour with the “haunted” Annabelle doll, accompanying the New England Society of Psychic Research (NESPR). The cause of death remains unknown and will be determined after an autopsy. Police reported that there were no signs of suspicious activity at the scene.

NESPR issued a statement expressing their heartbreak over Rivera’s death. He had been a key member of the team for over a decade and was described as a compassionate, loyal, and dedicated friend. Though the group is unsure about their future without him, they have vowed to continue their tours with Annabelle, believing Rivera would have wanted them to carry on.

NESPR was founded by Edward Warren (portrayed by Patrick Wilson in the movies) and Lorraine Warren (portrayed by Vera Farmiga). Ed Warren was a demonology expert and Lorraine Warren was a trance medium capable of communicating with spirits while in a half-sleep state. Their investigations gained fame primarily due to Annabelle, a doll they believed was demonically possessed, which inspired the popular Conjuring films. Ed Warren passed away in 2006, and Lorraine in 2019. According to NESPR, Dan Rivera supported Lorraine Warren until her end.

Annabelle is usually kept at their museum in Monroe, Connecticut. However, NESPR is now taking the doll on a tour called Devils On The Run, promising a “chilling experience” for visitors. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Maine this September.
