Gas tanker overturns in Jalandhar’s Adampur, Nearby schools and electricity supply closed as a precautionary measure

There was a commotion in the Adampur area of Jalandhar, Punjab, late Thursday night when a tanker full of HP gas went out of control and overturned.

Jalandhar, July 18: There was a commotion in the Adampur area of Jalandhar, Punjab, late Thursday night when a tanker full of HP gas went out of control and overturned. The accident happened between 12 and 1 am. As soon as the tanker overturned, gas started leaking from it, which created an atmosphere of panic in the area.

As soon as the information about the gas leak was received, teams of the fire department, police and administration immediately reached the spot. Relief and rescue work was started so that no major accident would occur. The driver of the tanker fled from the spot after the incident. Now the police of the Adampur police station is investigating the matter.

Gas kept leaking throughout the night, all services remained closed till morning

According to eyewitnesses, the gas leak continued till 7 am on Friday. Seeing the strong smell of gas and the potential danger, the administration cut off the electricity supply to the area. All the nearby schools were closed as a precautionary measure.

The movement of trains on the railway line was also stopped. The people of the area also tried to control the situation along with the administration. Another gas tanker was called from Bathinda, in which the process of shifting the gas from the leaking tanker was started.

The administration made it clear that electricity, school and railway services will be restored only after the gas is completely shifted to another place in a safe manner. At present, police force is deployed on the spot and the absconding driver is being searched. The administration has appealed to the people not to panic and avoid rumours.
