New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of India today. Mumbai is on an orange alert due to intense rainfall activity. In Mumbai, alerts are in place for areas such as Santacruz, Borivali, Mulund, Powai, Chembur, Worli, and Colaba, as well as Raigad Reserve, Alibag, and Shrivardhan in coastal Maharashtra. These areas can expect overcast skies with very heavy rain, exceeding 15 mm per hour.
Light rain is expected in eastern and central Maharashtra, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in some regions.
Other states forecasted to receive heavy showers include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and coastal regions of Karnataka, Goa, and Gujarat. Multiple regions across the country have received orange and yellow alerts, particularly along the Konkan coast, which remains under a yellow alert due to ongoing rains along the Arabian Sea.
The IMD’s bulletins warn of strong surface winds up to 50 km/h across peninsular India over the next five days. Southern West Bengal is also expected to see heavy rainfall from July 23 to 27.
Orange alerts have been issued for districts in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh:
Flood-like conditions have led to the closure of all government and private schools in Rajouri, Jammu, due to rising water levels in the Dharhali and Saktoh rivers. Heavy rains also caused the suspension of the Amarnath Yatra last week.
There are no weather alerts for Delhi, where maximum temperatures are expected to reach 35.5°C, and minimum temperatures will be around 27.2°C. Isolated regions in Haryana, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan may see intermittent rain and cloudy weather until July 27.
Fishermen are advised to avoid coastal waters until July 26, with warnings issued for the Arabian Sea shores (Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Maldives, and Comorin) and the Bay of Bengal shores (Tamil Nadu, southern Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and nearby waters).
