Kargil Vijay Diwas: Saga of Valour who fought for country till last drop of blood

In this war which lasted for about 60 days, the Indian Army defeated Pakistan on every front.

New Delhi: Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26 of July in India. It is celebrated to observe India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War for expelling Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999.

The year 1999 will be remembered for centuries in the history of India. Indian brave sons gave Pakistanis a tough fight and expelled from the Indian land. In this war which lasted for about 60 days, the Indian Army defeated Pakistan on every front.

India won this war on this day. This is the reason why this day, i.e. 26th July every year is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas.

India lost 527 brave soldiers in this war, while 1363 soldiers were injured. From Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Amol Kalia, Lieutenant Balwan Singh to Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav and Naik Digendra Kumar, there were many such ‘heroes’ of Kargil, whom the country cannot forget.

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was given the target of capturing three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill. He continued to fight even after being shot three times. He destroyed the second bunker and ordered his platoon to move forward. He was martyred in this war. He was awarded the ‘Param Vir Chakra’.

 

 Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey

Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey was given the target of removing enemy soldiers from Batlik sector. He worked to push back the intruders. He was martyred amidst heavy shelling. He captured Jubar Top and Khalubar Hill before being martyred. He was awarded the ‘Param Vir Chakra’ posthumously.

 

Captain Vikram Batra

Abour S.C.V.B. | Govt. College Palampur | Kangra Himachal Pradesh

Commissioned in 13 JAK Rifles in December 1997. His codename was ‘Sher Shah’ during the Kargil war. He captured the important Point 5140. He voluntarily participated in the battle to capture Point 4875. He was martyred on 7 July 1999 in the battle for Point 4875. After the success of the mission, he became very famous by saying ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’. He was awarded the ‘Paramveer Chakra’ posthumously.

 

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar

Displayed indomitable courage in the battle at Area Flat Top. He attacked the enemy bunker and killed three Pakistani soldiers. He kept fighting even after being hit by three bullets. He kept capturing the enemy front until more soldiers arrived for help. He was awarded the ‘Paramveer Chakra’ for this bravery.
