  • Dehradun: Due to the forecast of low to moderate flood risk in several districts of Uttarakhand, the State Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun has advised all district magistrates (DMs) to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

According to the forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of waterlogging or flood threats in various areas within Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi districts over the next 24 hours owing to heavy rainfall.

The advisory emphasizes controlling traffic and maintaining high levels of preparedness and security at all levels. In case of any disaster or accident, immediate on-site action should be taken, and information should be exchanged without delay. All officers and departmental nodal officers designated for disaster management under the IRS system will stay on high alert, according to the letter signed by Deputy Secretary Mahavir Singh Parmar.

In Chamoli, police issued an alert on Sunday urging residents to stay alert as the water level of the Alaknanda River continues to rise due to ongoing rainfall. The police cautioned against going near the riverbanks, warning that the weather remains unstable and the water level is rising rapidly.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Jogitikariya bridge on the Dindori-Jabalpur route has been submerged due to heavy rains, leading to the overflow of the Narmada River. A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is present at the site. Dindori police officer Satish Dwivedi informed ANI that the river is in spate, and traffic from both sides has been diverted. Adequate security arrangements have been made, and police, Home Guard, and SDRF teams are deployed.

Additionally, on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in these states.
