Chandigarh: In case of outstanding Scholarship amount for meritorious matriculation students of batch 2016-17, Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought status report from the Punjab Government. Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed seeking release of the scholarship amount of students. A PIL filed by lawyer HC Arora has alleged that the Punjab government hadn’t paid scholarship amount to students of secondary classes who scored 80% or more marks in the matriculation examination in the year 2016-2017.

Such students who passed their matriculation examination with 90% or more were entitled to a scholarship of thirty thousand rupees each for the next two years of education in secondary classes under the Dr. Hargobind Khurana Scholarship Scheme launched by the Government of Punjab in 2013.

The petitioner had submitted a list of 11 students of Government Senior Secondary School Jadla SBS Nagar.  Scholarship amount has not been paid yet despite lapse of much time to the meritorious students.

Advocate Sunaina, appearing for the petitioner, brought to the notice of the High Court that a large number of such students are troubled due to non-payment of scholarship amount. At this stage the HC Division Bench of ACJ and Justice Nidhi Gupta directed the State of Punjab to submit a status report on the next date of hearing
