To ensure safe and peaceful celebrations and keeping in view of the enthusiasm of the general public, Chandigarh police has issued a traffic advisory for New Year Eve celebration

Chandigarh: The New Year will be celebrated at various places in Chandigarh on the eve of 31.12.2023. To ensure safe and peaceful celebrations and keeping in view of the enthusiasm of the general public, Chandigarh police has issued a traffic advisory for New Year Eve celebration

Chandigarh Police has urged all Citizens to cooperate with Police officials on duty. Law & Order and Traffic arrangements have been made and Chandigarh Traffic Police will conduct a special drive against traffic violations in the city on the eve of New Year-2024 and strict legal action shall be taken against violators and their driving licenses may be suspended/cancelled.

Persons found consuming liquor in public places, creating nuisance on public roads and public places, creating noise pollution, and indulging in hooliganism shall be dealt with strictly as per law, said the advisory.

 As per police, Special Drunken Driving Nakas will also be set up at various places & surprise checks will be conducted. Chandigarh Police shall be regulating traffic and assisting the general public for the maintenance of peace and order.

Police have also designated a few road stretches as ‘Restricted Vehicle Zone’ from 10 pm on 31st December to 2 am on 1st January for the smooth movement of traffic. The ‘restricted vehicle zone’ includes Inner Mkt road of Sector 7, Sector 8, Sector 9,  Sector 10 (small Chowk upto end of market Sector 10)  ,  Sector 17 , and Sector 22.

This also include Roads in front of Museum & Art Gallery, Sector 10,  From Aroma Light Point to a Small Chowk near the Dispensary, Roads Leading to Elante Mall. Police have advised  Residents of these surrounding areas/road stretches are hereby advised to carry an identity proof (mentioning therein residence address) for accessing these roads during the restriction period so that no inconvenience to them.

Further, traffic will be regulated in One-Way System around, Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase 1. The general public is also advised to park their vehicles in earmarked parking space only and they are further advised not to park vehicles on footpaths/cycle tracks and main roads to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion.
