Beware! Chandigarh Police alerts on e-Challan Scam, Here’s how to stay Safe

Police also explained how to identify between a fake and real message about alert

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has alerted people on e-Challan scam. Nowadays, financial fraud through fake messages of e-Challan has become very common. People receive fake message about a bout a traffic violation along with the payment link of the fine. As soon as the person tap on the payment link to pay the fine, all personal details are shared with the scammer.

To make people aware of the fraud, Chandigarh police issued an advisory on how to recognize these fake messages of traffic violations.

The Traffic police said, “#Alert regarding #TrafficChallan online payment SCAM The general public is advised not to get trapped in the online traffic challan Scam. Be aware and make others aware!”

In a post on X, explaining how fraud is done Police said, “Scammer sends text message (with apk link) to your mobile phone resembling e-Challan alert. Upon clicking/downloading the link, your Mobile Phone security is compromised and fraudsters commit financial frauds.”

Police also explained how to identify between a fake and real message about alert. It should be noted that  An e-Challan alert will never come from a mobile number or through Whatapp platform. Police urged people to re-check such messages carefully before clicking or downloading the such link.

Also, people can check the e-challan received on the official website of Parivahan (Transport) department. To check your e-Challan always use original link which is https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in
