US Navy approves $80 million deal to refuel nuclear planes

Huntington Ingalls has received an $80 million contract extension from the U.S. Navy to continue and complete the refueling and overhauling of the nuclear reactor on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier John C. Stennis.

Washington: Huntington Ingalls has received an $80 million contract extension from the U.S. Navy to continue and complete the refueling and overhauling of the nuclear reactor on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier John C. Stennis.

The Defense Department announced this in a press release. “Virginia has been awarded an $80 million modification contract for the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) fueling complex overhaul for contingency work,” the release said Friday.

The Defense Department said all overhaul work will be performed in Newport News, Virginia. According to the Department of Defense, the work will be performed by Huntington Ingalls in accordance with 10 US Code 3204(a)(1) under the supervision of the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, DC.
