Kuldeep Dhaliwal raises issue of forced recruitment in Russian Army, says Central govt should intervene

He demanded immediate intervention of the Central Government in this matter.

Chandigarh: Following media reports of Indian youth being forcefully recruited into the Russian military and sent to fight in Ukraine, Punjab Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has raised the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Russian Ambassador to India.

Raising this issue in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Mr. Dhaliwal said that this is a very serious matter, which needs to be resolved soon because most of these youth belong to Punjab, who had gone to Russia on visitor visa, but were forcibly inducted into the Russian military. He told that one of them had died during the war.

Dhaliwal appealed that necessary action should be taken to provide proper help to these youth to return home. He also demanded that appropriate action be taken against those who violate visa rules or the Immigration Act. He said that some media reports have revealed that these youth were forced by the agents to work as ‘helpers’ in the Russian army by luring them with jobs.

The Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs also demanded that the mortal remains of the youth killed during the war be brought back. He demanded immediate intervention of the Central Government in this matter. He told that seven Indian youth Gagandeep Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Narayan Singh, Gurpreet Singh (21), Gurpreet Singh (23) and others are trapped in the war zone of Ukraine.
