Uttar Pradesh : Congress in Uttar Pradesh faced another setback today as Congress National Secretary Ajay Kapoor joined the BJP. Kapoor, who is also co-in-charge of Bihar, is a prominent leader in UP Congress and has been elected as MLA three times. He represented Govind Nagar twice and Kidwai Nagar once. Kapoor aimed to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Kanpur this time.
As Congress gears up for the 2024 elections with ticket allocation discussions ongoing, there is uncertainty regarding the participation of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. However, amid this, potential candidates are leaving the party. In another blow to Congress in UP, Ajay Kapoor joined the BJP on Wednesday.
Bihar BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde included Bihar Congress co-in-charge Ajay Kapoor. He said this one plus one becomes eleven! And due to being co-in-charge of Bihar Congress for so many years, the BJP will benefit from it. Besides, the party will also benefit from Kapoor’s active political experience in Uttar Pradesh politics.
Citing it as the beginning of his new journey, Kapoor expressed his excitement, He mentioned joining Modi’s leadership and emphasized contributing to the country’s development.
He was considered one of the tallest Congress leaders in Kanpur. For a long time, there was a leadership division within Congress in Kanpur, where leaders like Shriprakash Jaiswal and Ajay Kapoor led separate groups.
With the weakening of the Jaiswal faction, Kapoor shifted his focus to Delhi. Now, he has joined the BJP in Delhi. His two brothers, entrepreneur Vijay Kapoor and Indian Chess Federation President Sanjay Kapoor had already joined BJP sometime back.
