The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a notification on Thursday to provide pension under the 'Indira Gandhi Pyaari Bahna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana'.

Shimla : The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a notification on Thursday to provide pension under the ‘Indira Gandhi Pyaari Bahna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana’. The ruling Congress had promised Rs 1,500 per month to women aged 18 to 59 before the assembly elections, which the state government was criticized for not fulfilling.

On March 4, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had announced that the state government would give Rs 1,500 per month to women, which would benefit more than 5 lakh women.

According to the notification, income tax payers, women monks permanently residing in monasteries, family members of State and Central Government employees, pensioners of Central and State Governments, employees of Panchayati Raj Institutions, local bodies and public sector undertakings are eligible. This amount will not be received.

Other categories excluded from the ambit of pension include contractual employees, daily wage earners, part-time employees, ex-servicemen and their spouses, Anganwadi workers and assistants, ASHA employees, mid-day meal employees and beneficiaries of social security pension.

Providing Rs 1500 monthly to women was among the 10 ‘guarantees’ given by the ruling Congress before the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur had accused Sukhu of misleading women due to non-implementation of pension.
