Hooch Tragedy Sangrur: Death toll rises to 12 while 7 undergoing treatment in hospital

In Sangrur's Dirba and Sunam villages, the number of people dying due to spurious liquor is continuously increasing. So far, the number of deaths due to drinking artificial liquor has reached 12.

Dirba (Sangrur) : In Sangrur’s Dirba and Sunam villages, the number of people dying due to spurious liquor is continuously increasing. So far, the number of deaths due to drinking artificial liquor has reached 12. Six people have died in Gujran village, three in Dhandoli, one in Upali and three in Sunam. 7 people from Sunam are still hospitalized due to consumption of spurious liquor.

The ongoing legal proceedings related to this incident are being monitored by Patiala Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. He said that in this regard, four persons were arrested and equipment used for making alcohol was also recovered. The arrested persons have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi, Manpreet Singh alias Mani, Gurlal Singh and Harmanpreet Singh. Health Minister Balbir Singh, his OSD Pardeep Joshan said that all the patients are being treated properly in Rajindra Hospital.

SAD demands financial assistance of one crore to kin of deceased

On the other hand, Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader and former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa has demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter. They have also demanded financial assistance of one crore rupees each for the families of the victims of the deceased. Dhindsa said that the persons who died due to consumption of poisoned liquor were laborers who were responsible for their families. He said that these families have suffered an irreparable loss.

Expressing his grief with the families of the victims, he said that the Punjab government should provide financial assistance of one crore rupees per family to the families of the victims of the deceased. Dhindsa said that Haryana’s liquor is being sold illegally in the so-called capital of the so-called fanatic party and fanatical honest government and in the constituency of the Minister of Excise Department. He said that the families of the victims have said that this liquor is being sold for the last one year and the sellers themselves supply liquor to the houses.
