Chandigarh : Ahead of general elections, SAD suffers a major setback as Hardeep Singh Buterla, the Lok Sabha candidate from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Chandigarh, along with numerous supporters, has switched allegiance to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Having previously served as a councilor three times and as a senior deputy mayor, Mr. Buterla was welcomed into AAP by Chief Minister BhagwantMann, who felicitated him and conducted his formal inclusion into the party.

Hardeep Singh Buterla, besides his political roles, has been active in local governance in Chandigarh. As a councilor, he represented the interests of his constituency and contributed to various local development initiatives. His experience as a senior deputy mayor likely provided him with insights into municipal administration and urban governance.

Buterla’s decision to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) indicates a significant shift in his political allegiance. The AAP, known for its anti-corruption stance and emphasis on grassroots democracy, might have resonated with Buterla’s vision for Chandigarh and Punjab.

Switching from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to AAP also suggests a response to changing political dynamics in the region. It’s possible that Buterla identified AAP’s ideology and leadership, particularly under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, as more aligned with his own principles and aspirations for Chandigarh.

Hardeep Singh Buterla, hailing from the village of Buterla, Chandigarh, is well-regarded for his strong presence in the villages of Chandigarh. In 2006 and 2011, Hardeep’s father, Gurnam Singh, and brother, Malkiyat Singh, were elected as councilors of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

After Malkiyat’s demise, Hardeep assumed the role of councilor in 2015, 2016, and 2021. He has also served as Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. In 2018, Hardeep Singh was entrusted with the responsibility of Chandigarh’s president by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
